Searching for Rhinos and Tigers in The East

Among the wild destinations of India, there is a jewel that is ever-shining, and the jewel is known as Kaziranga National Park. Situated in Eastern India,  it is home to rare and endemic specie which is critically endangered and need a lot of protection.

Rhino
Kaziranga  National Park

Kaziranga is home of the one horned rhinoceros. It is situated in the East and spread right up to the Western border. Indian rhinoceros as it is also known was once widespread right up to many forests of the North.  The wild animal is now living in a restricted space in Kaziranga. Some animals are still found in the Pobitatra wildlife sanctuary.  A number of rhinos have been translocated to Dudhwa National Park in Uttar Pradesh. The animal survives in Kaziranga after appreciable conservation measures.

More than two thousand rhinos live in the park,  it has become very popular among tourists. Besides the rhino, the habitat also supports tigers, Eastern swamp deer, water buffalo, and Indian elephants in good numbers. The biodiversity profile is unique with many forms of megafauna and microfauna found in the park. The floral elements are tall grass, swampland, tropical moist broad-leaf forests, and tropical moist semi-evergreen woods.

Kaziranga is heaven for birding, and it has been notified as Important Bird Area by Birdlife International. A large number of bird watchers make a beeline for the park. Avian species such as greater and lesser adjutant storks, Baer's pochard, black-necked stork, eastern imperial eagle, swamp francolin, Fulvous whistling duck, Tundra Swan, Bean Goose, Northern Shoveller can be easily seen while many other species including wintering ducks are a joy to watch.
